September

Women in Fly Fishing 101 Class

Date: September 8th

Jen Ripple of Dun Magazine will be helping with our series of Women in Fly Fishing. In this first class we will cover the basics of fly fishing and help you understand some easy knots, properties of the cast, some terminology and a little entomology. $25/person and proceeds go to Casting for a Cure.

 

Terrestrials

Date: September 29th

Cost: $35

Troy Basso, local guide, writer and signature fly tier for Catch Flies, will teach his most productive patterns for fooling those hopper eating fish. Tying with foam can be tricky but with a few hours and a couple of tips it is sure to be your new favorite material.

 

October

10x Tournament

Date: October 7th

It is what it sounds like. Everyone will be given a spool of 10x Trout Hunter. We will meet below Center Hill Dam and whoever catches the biggest fish wins. ONLY RULE- No fishing reads. Sign up and get more info in the shop.

Sage Spey School

Join renowned spey casting instructor and Sage Ambassador Scott O’Donnell and his crew of die-hard steelhead guides at Speywater Lodge for three days of Spey instruction and steelhead fishing. Scott and his crew are master instructors and the Grande Ronde is the best place we know of to learn the art of Spey casting and improve your swing fishing skills.

In addition to the professional instruction and world-class fishing, Sage will have with their entire portfolio of Spey rods with matching RIO Spey lines available for you to try.

* $2,400 per person for a 4 night/3 day package
* Included: Accommodations and meals at lodge, guided fishing, flies
and leaders as well as access to demo the entire Sage Spey rod and reel
lineup and the entire Rio Spey offering.

Fly Tying 101

Date: October 20th

Cost:$35

Troy Basso, local guide, writer and signature fly tier for Catch Flies, will be teaching a how-to on fly tying. This class will get you started tying with some confidence and teach you how to use certain tools to make tying more enjoyable.

 

Freshwater Big Game

Date: October 27th

Cost:$55

Our in house big game junkie Guy Davenport will be teaching some of his favorite and most productive flies he ties for Smallmouth, Striper and Muskelunge.

November

Fly Tying for Tailwaters

Date: November 3rd

Cost:$35

Buckley Lewis, our specialized fly tying manager, will be teaching some of the most productive and “must have” flies for any tailwater you may happen to step in.

Sage Spey School

Fly Tying- High Impact Inshore

Date: November 17th

Cost: $45

Troy Basso, local guide, writer and signature fly tier for Catch Flies, will be teaching flies that stand up to hard use and high numbers of fish. If you want to learn how to tie a more sturdy fly, this is the class for you.

Fly Tying- Midges

Date: December 1st

Cost:$35

Buckley Lewis, as I also refer to as the “Midge Master” will be teaching some of his favorite midge patterns. If you think you tie good midges, you need to see Buckleys.

January

Fly Tying for the Time Impaired

Date: January 12th

Cost:$35

For the angler that doesn’t have time for our 4 night beginner class. This is class will teach you just enough to get jump started in fly tying.

Fly Tying- Poppers

Date: December 19th

Cost:$35

Our very own Jim Mauries will be teaching how he ties his beautiful poppers as well as how to use the Copic Airbrush, this is one of my favorite new tools on my tying bench.

Poppers    Date: 4/14    Cost: $75

Join us for a Saturday of popper tying. We will cover everything from deer hair to painting foam with the Copic Marker Air Brush Kit.

Articulated Streamers    Date: 4/21    Cost: $55

Throughout the years streamer fishing has moved into the norm for a lot of fishermen. Articulated streamers are some of the most realistic of the streamer family and are as much fun to tie as they are to fish.

Deer Hair Bugs     Date: 4/28    Cost: $55

Spinning deer hair can be a daunting task when you haven’t been taught how easy it can be. Let us make being scared of tying and spinning deer hair a thing of the past.

Caney Fork Entomology  -ON THE WATER-   Date: 4/29    Cost: $85

This class looks at the river from top to bottom and side to side. We cover the length of the river to discover the aquatic life of the Caney Fork River. This is one of the most eye-opening classes we teach and will take you as an angler to the next level.

Carp / Skipjack / Buffalo/ Gar       Date: 5/5   Cost: $55

Some of the best fishing in our area is provided by what some uneducated anglers consider “trash fish”. We have been pioneers in developing fly fishing for alternative species. This class will teach some f our top producers for all of these species. If you plan on fishing our annual “Carp Masters Tournament” this class will give you head start.

How to fish the Caney Fork -ON THE WATER-  Date:5/6    Cost: $125

This class offers a key to help unlock some of the secrets of the Caney Fork River. We will examine the river itself, from the aquatic life to the substrate, to the micro currents and determine what is the optimal presentation for the situation. If you can only take one class, this is the one to take!!
