Rockin’ The Elk!!!

“Where in the World has Pumpkin been”, you may have been asking yourself? The gosh darn Elk River I’ll tell you!! Water levels have been at a constant 100 cfs around the clock for a couple months now and although the river hasn’t been stocked all year, fishing away from the main access points has been very good.

Aussie Rodney Charters, owner of White Goat Productions and avid fly fisherman has been in town for the last month filming the ABC pilot “Nashville”  and got tuned on to The Elk by yours truly and although he didn’t get many days off while here he managed to make it to the river multiple times, once on a float with me. They shot a lot of video with a prototype camera Canon sent him, which I tried to conveniently leave in my truck. I got off one great picture with my little buddy camera. Well, maybe not great but it is a picture.

When the F3T (Fly Fishing Film Tour) was in town their man Taylor Bussey needed a little water therapy away from the hustle and bustle of the tour so we booked it on down to the Elk for a few hours retreat. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to float it so our catch rate was pinched a bit but what a beautiful place to spend a afternoon.

You don’t have to be a pro to hang into a lunker on the Elk as demonstrated by my main man Zach Sutton. This is Zach’s first trout on a fly rod and now he’s the one hooked. We’ve been back since this trip and put a few more notches on his belt and he’s even logged a redfish now.

Thanks very much to the Hendersonville Fly Fishers for having me out last night to speak about the Elk. I always enjoy going to their meetings especially when they let me talk. If you want to book a trip or just get a little information please come by the shop, we will be glad to help you. And if you see me on the river, say hello!!
