When liquid sunshine pours down, the new Patagonia Stormfront Roll Top Pack keeps your gear bone-dry. The simple, highly effective design, built with 100% waterproof, PU exterior coating and single-side interior TPU-coated nylon and fully welded construction, is the fishing bag of choice for extreme wet weather. The padded shoulder straps and adjustable waistbelt are lined with 3-D spacer mesh for extra comfort on long hikes through dripping ferns and devil’s club. There’s also a water-resistant exterior stash pocket, lash points and rod-tube holders so you’re ready to fish as soon as you hit good water. For more technical fishing, the shoulder straps accept the vest front from Patagonia’s Convertible Vest (sold separately). $149
Simms’ Headwaters Large Sling Pack rides comfortably across one shoulder for the freedom to make delicate casts in close or deliver long-distance deposits to far off banks. The pack’s genius stems from the seamless ability to bring it from back to front to back again, when it’s time to switch up the program. Access the guts via two zippered compartments, with stretch mesh pockets and 915 cubic inches of gear swallowing capacity. Additional features include an exterior stash pocket, removable floatant and tippet-spool retainers, and a compression-molded front pocket that folds out for a customizable workspace that travels anywhere. $119.95
The new Patagonia Hybrid Pack Vest comfortably hauls everything you need to deal with schizophrenic weather and keeps you organized through it all. They started with their now-classic Vertical Pocket Vest and modernized it with the latest high-performance materials and an integrated pack. The vest body is made from 100% nylon double-ripstop backed with durable, 3-D spacer mesh that breathes easily in the heat and won’t absorb water in a downpour. A vertical pocket configuration provides easy storage and access, while Hypalon® utility keepers, D-rings and multiple internal zippered pockets put everything in its place. Large rear storage pocket holds lunch, jacket and anything else you want to pack around. The pack also has a sleeve for a hydration bladder. Front and side adjustments make it easy to maintain fit as your insulation changes according to weather. $99
Can’t decide between a traditional fishing vest and sling pack? Patagonia combined the two for a best-of-both-worlds solution. Patagonia’s Vest Front Sling features their vertical-pocket vest configuration on one side, with a larger storage pack on the other. Access to either is simple; just swing the side you want around to the front without having to take it off. External nylon utility keeper provides secure attachment point for zingers while a selection of easy-access pockets keeps the stuff you need handy. Inside, there’s a range of organizing pockets, a 100% waterproof, welded security pouch and enough room for lunch, jacket and extra fly boxes. $89

Rus Schwausch of EPIC Angling & Adventure will tell us about two fishing destinations-of-a-lifetime located on the Alaska Peninsula – Alaska Wilderness SAFARI and Alaska Wilderness OUTPOST.
Alaska Wilderness SAFARI, the more sophisticated operation, is written up in the book Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die as “arguably the most isolated coastal fishing camp in Alaska and one of the best places in the world to pursue chrome-bright, ocean-fresh salmon.” But if you want, there’s a lot more to do than just fish. This eco-diverse destination also offers daily wildlife viewing, waterfalls, tide pools and beach combing, plus helicopter fly-out fishing!
Alaska Wilderness OUTPOST is a rustic, early season camp offering excellent small stream fishing for rainbow trout, grayling, king salmon and more. Short on frills, this program is for the die-hard fisherman focused on quality fishing rather than extraneous amenities.
